King’s Wood is an elegant, deeply structured single-block Shiraz from Yangarra Estate’s elevated Blewitt Springs vineyard. Sourced from a south-east-facing ironstone and sand outcrop, the wine combines vivid fruit, peppery spice and savoury detail with polished tannins developed through extended maturation in large-format French and Austrian oak.
Yangarra Estate specialises in southern Rhône varieties grown across its McLaren Vale property, where altitude, ancient geology, varied soils and maritime influence contribute freshness, complexity and distinctive site expression.
The fruit was sourced exclusively from Block 12, a south-east-facing vineyard situated on a sandy ironstone outcrop. The cooler aspect preserves brightness and aromatic detail, while the ironstone and sand contribute concentration, savoury complexity and structure.
A normally wet winter was followed by a dry spring. Unexpected rainfall during December and January encouraged larger bunches and berry development, while warm conditions through February and early March promoted flavour ripeness and concentration.
The fruit was picked on 15 March. Twenty percent was retained as whole bunches, while the remainder was selectively berry sorted and crushed. Wild fermentation took place in open fermenters, followed by approximately 20 days on skins with gentle cap wetting and minimal extraction.
The wine was basket pressed, with only the lightest pressings included alongside the free-run wine. It matured for 18 months in 2,500-litre French and Austrian oak foudre.
Producer Tasting Note
Royal Oaks and King’s Wood were forests planted by monarchs to build elegant cathedrals and church naves. The beautiful old French and Austrian oak in our foudre vessels helps us make elegant wine by gradually polishing and protecting the brightest, spiciest South facing Shiraz we grow on Yangarra.

Always such a complex nose, fruit intense but with spice and savoury detail. Tapenade, blackberry pastille, cracked pepper, crème de violette, lavender, dark rye bread, bresaola, wild fennel seeds and panforte. So much complex and engaging detail here, layered, available, not cloaked by oak, and never forced. The tannin structure is refined and this is sapid in delivery, made for the table. A superb release.

This is a (highly) structural release with pepper, mint and herb characters running through red cherry and plum-driven fruit. It’s fresh, substantial, complex and nutty… It’s as much savoury as fruity; the firm finesse of its tannin profile is noteworthy; it finishes with a resounding flourish.
