About This Wine
This wine is made from Muscat Hamburg (Mei-gui-xiang), a historic aromatic grape variety with more than a century of cultivation history in China. While Muscat Hamburg did not originate in China, it has been grown locally since the late 19th century and has become deeply established in regions such as Hebei.
Traditionally enjoyed as a table grape, Muscat Hamburg is also well suited to winemaking. To preserve the grape’s natural freshness and aromatic purity, flotation clarification is used prior to fermentation. In this process, grape juice is clarified before fermentation to remove impurities, allowing for a cleaner expression and more precise aromatic profile.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows expressive rose petal aromas, accompanied by sweet melon and honey notes. The palate is clean and refreshing, featuring white peach and pear, with gentle sweetness and clear acidity. The finish is layered with white fruit and lingering fragrance.
About the Winery
Shofang is a winery founded by Chinese winemaker Hu Shofang. In 2011, Hu Shofang studied oenology and viticulture at the University of Adelaide. In 2019, she returned to China and, together with her partner Li Liwei, established the winery in Liuyinghe Village, Lulong County, Qinhuangdao, Hebei.
The winery works closely with locally grown Muscat Hamburg and other fruit varieties, producing wines that explore diverse styles beyond traditional red wine structures.Â
