The 2024 Polperro Little Laney Pinot Noir is a single-vineyard Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir from a steep easterly slope overlooking Western Port Bay and Phillip Island. Produced from the top block of old-vine MV6 Pinot Noir, it captures a cool, perfumed and structured expression of the site.
Little Laney is farmed with a sustainability-focused and regenerative approach, incorporating biological, biodynamic and organic practices. The vineyard's cool aspect, morning sun exposure and own-rooted vines give the wine perfume, concentration and fine-grained structural tension.
The fruit was hand-harvested and destemmed as whole berries into two-tonne open fermenters, then left to begin fermentation naturally. A short period of intracellular fermentation helped lift aromatics before the ferment was hand-plunged two to three times daily for 15 days.
The wine remained on skins for a further 15 days post-ferment before pressing and transfer to barrel. It was matured for 16 months in oak, with 30% new oak, predominantly Sirugue extra-tight-grain, light-toast barrels, then bottled without fining or filtration.
95 points - Huon Hooke, The Real Review
Tasted 28 May 2026. Medium-deep red with purple tinge, showing smoked charcuterie, dark red fruits and dried herbs, with supple texture, drying tannins and a lingering finish.
Nose: Red and black fruits layered with dusty spice, forest floor and dried shiitake mushroom.
Palate: Concentrated red and black fruit with supple weight and brooding intensity. A tensile tannin structure and fine acid line frame notes of earthy density, cacao dust and cinnamon.
Pair with duck, roast chicken, mushroom dishes, charcuterie, lamb cutlets or earthy vegetable dishes.
Drinking window: 2026-2036.
