The 2024 Brokenwood Indigo Vineyard Chardonnay comes from Beechworth, one of Australia’s finest regions for Chardonnay. Low yields in 2024 have given this wine added concentration, while its pale yellow-green colour, grapefruit lift and bright acidity keep the style fresh, detailed and energetic.
Indigo Vineyard brings together varied soils, aspects, clones and vine age. In 2024, frost reduced yields significantly, but the remaining fruit ripened quickly and arrived in excellent condition, producing a Chardonnay of purity, texture and length.
The 2024 season followed above-average rainfall through 2023 and a major frost event in late October, which reduced Chardonnay yields across some blocks by as much as 75%. Indigo received more than 100mm of rain in both October and December, creating a vigorous canopy that helped offset frost damage. January cleared, and low yields ensured rapid ripening. Fruit picking commenced on 12 February.
The wine was whole-bunch pressed and wild fermented in French oak, mostly 500L puncheons. It was fermented in 39% new French oak, with the balance in older oak from a range of cooperages. Extended lees contact contributes bran meal, toast and textural complexity while preserving a zesty line of acidity.

95 points - Huon Hooke, The Real Review, tasted 11 January 2026
Bright, fresh and high-energy, with struck-flint, oatmeal, lemon citrus and crushed nut aromas. Huon Hooke described the palate as refined, taut and elegant, with fine fruit sweetness and a bright future.
95 points - Royal Queensland Wine Awards, awarded 2025
Gold Medal awarded at the 2025 Royal Queensland Wine Awards.
A little fuller in colour than previous vintages, reflecting the impact of low yield, while still showing a pale yellow-green hue. The nose offers ripe grapefruit, bran meal and toast notes from wild fermentation and extended lees contact. Crisp acidity and balanced alcohol create a zesty mouthfeel, with grapefruit pith and rock melon carrying through a long finish.
Pair with richer seafood, roast scallop, pan-fried chicken, light meats, mushrooms or classic roast chicken.
Drinking well now, with further bottle age expected to build additional complexity and texture. Huon Hooke lists a drinking window of 2026-2039.
