89/100 — Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy · 2022 Vintage
“En Grillot sits just below the premier cru Clos du Roy. Vinified with 35% whole bunches. Slightly lighter purple than the Bourgogne, but still adequately full. A very engaging pinot fruit on the nose, with generous dark raspberry on the palate, good length too. Full and agreeable.”
About This Wine
Mercurey En Grillot 2023 is produced from a 0.53-hectare parcel of old vines planted between 1940 and 1950.
These are the oldest vines on the domaine and utilise high canopy works.
The vineyard is planted on marly calcic soils of Oxfordian limestone.
Viticulture is organic, with no use of tractors in the vineyard. Vineyard work is carried out by hand or with horses for ploughing.
In the winery, some whole bunches are retained and macerations are long.
William Kelley described the wine as showing “engaging pinot fruit on the nose, with generous dark raspberry on the palate”.
About the Producer
The estate previously known as Domaine de la Vieille Fontaine was taken over at the beginning of 2021 by the Corcia family. Alain Corcia is a successful négociant based in Savigny les Beaune, specialising in the marketing of great Burgundy wines for over 35 years.
Raphaël Corcia is responsible for both vineyard and cellar operations and reimagined the cultivation of these vines through biodynamics from the first vintage under the family's ownership.
