Overview

A lively and elegant expression of Sangiovese Grosso from Castelnuovo dell’Abate in southern Montalcino. Belpoggio’s Rosso di Montalcino is conceived as a fresher, earlier-drinking counterpart to Brunello, combining ripe red fruit and savoury Tuscan herbs with fine tannins, juicy acidity and a rounded, silky texture.

Vineyard

The wine is made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso grown in the Bellaria area of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, Montalcino, at approximately 350 metres above sea level. The vineyard sits on calcareous, stony soils in a Mediterranean climate, with marked day-to-night temperature variation helping preserve freshness and aromatic definition.

Winemaking

Traditional vinification includes 10–15 days of maceration at controlled temperature. The wine is matured for approximately 9–12 months in 30-hectolitre oak casks, followed by at least three months of bottle ageing before release.

Belpoggio is a small estate in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, Montalcino, focused on producing elegant and savoury expressions of Sangiovese Grosso. Established on a historic vineyard site and led by the Martellozzo family, the estate benefits from the influence of Monte Amiata and the Ombrone valley, which help moderate the warm conditions of southern Montalcino.

Production centres on Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino, with an approach that favours restrained winemaking, traditional élevage and clear expression of vineyard character.
