Overview

Chris Ringland Dry Grown Shiraz is a modern Barossa classic, originally known as Three Rivers, representing old vine material, dry-grown viticulture and the concentrated power of the Barossa Ranges.

The wine comes from a tiny 1.5 hectare north-east facing vineyard on the corner of Flaxmans Valley Road and Stone Chimney Creek Road. Established by Thomas Randall in 1910 and acquired by Chris Ringland in 1994, the vineyard was gradually restored and is now renowned for producing unusually thick-skinned Shiraz of great depth, colour and tannin.

Vineyard

The vines are dry grown, low yielding and planted on their own roots. The soils are shallow and skeletal, with granitic sandy loams over underlying clay and moisture-holding podzols. Hard pruning and the demands of each season produce fruit of exceptional concentration and structure.

The result is an intense, deeply coloured Shiraz that reflects the enduring quality of early 20th-century Barossa vine stock and Chris Ringland's meticulous approach to old-vine winemaking.
