Sourced from a single 1.3 hectare dry-grown vineyard
2017 Greenock Creek Roennfeldt Road Shiraz is sourced from a single 1.3 hectare dry-grown vineyard planted on a gently sloping, southeast-facing site at Marananga on Roennfeldt Road. A vineyard renowned as Australia’s finest red wine address, this wine embodies premium quality.
Barossa Valley Vineyard Excellence
Barossa Valley vineyard, known for its dry-grown old vines anchored deep into the quartz stone-rich loam soils, ensures that the vines receive consistent sub-surface moisture, promoting vine health and even ripening. Gully breezes cool the canopy, and the ridge line to the west protects the vines from the late afternoon sun, leading to remarkable flavour intensity and natural acidity.
Winemaking Process
The fruit, harvested from Indian summer conditions, underwent open slate fermentation and was then transferred to 100% American oak for two years. Bottle matured for three years before release, the wine showcases cherry red hues, notes of blueberry and blackcurrant, oak maturation aromas of vanilla bean and char, structured ripe tannins, and a long finish with rum/raisin characters, candied figs, and sweet praline biscuits. Mid-palate creaminess and sweetness complement the strong expression of Barossa Valley Shiraz.
Ageing Potential
This wine is recommended to be cellared for 10-15 years, allowing the tannins to evolve and integrate further, enhancing the existing linear framework balanced by a sweet acid finish.
