Overview

A powerful and distinctive Barossa Valley Shiraz from Greenock Creek. Caseys Block was planted using selected cuttings from four of the estate's Shiraz parcels, producing a deeply concentrated expression that combines luscious dark fruit, peppery spice and savoury complexity. The 2017 release carries the richness and structure for which Greenock Creek's western Barossa wines are renowned.

Vineyard

Caseys Block was planted using selected cuttings from four Greenock Creek estate Shiraz parcels. Greenock Creek's vineyards are situated across Seppeltsfield, Marananga and Moppa along the western edge of the Barossa Valley, where dry growing conditions produce small berries with deep colour, abundant flavour and strong structural definition.

“This block was planed to select cuttings from our 4 estate Shiraz parcels. The palate is dense and rich with luscious plum sauce and blackcurrant sweetness balanced with the cracked black peppercorn spice. Dill and sage provide a savoury aspect to the finish that drives long with toffee, coco powder and dusty oak.

I’m amazed that a wine at 17% alcohol can still show cool climate black pepper nuances and be so balanced. This young vineyard is starting to really hit its straps for quality and balance.” — Greenock Creek

“Deep, dark red colour with purple tints, and an expressive bouquet of coconutty oak, raisiny super-ripe fruit, and this all re-appears faithfully in the mouth where it's massively big and somewhat clumsy, with fore-palate sweetness thanks to overripe fruit, then a rustic middle and finish, with lashings of drying tannins. A very chewy aftertaste. Surprisingly, the 17% alcohol doesn't make the wine especially hot or spirity. However, an elegant wine it ain't. An extreme style which will no doubt have its admirers.”
