Overview
Mount Mary Quintet is an iconic Yarra Valley Bordeaux-style red blend, prized for its purity, complexity and exceptional ageing potential. The 2016 vintage combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot in a finely structured expression of this celebrated Australian vineyard.
Vintage and Blend
The 2016 season delivered remarkably even quality across all five Quintet varieties. The blend comprises 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot, creating a layered wine with excellent fruit definition, structure and balance.
Tasting Profile
Red and dark fruits are balanced on the nose, with cherry, cranberry, plum and blackcurrant supported by violets, cedar, spice and toasted French oak. The palate offers ripe fruit, chocolate and liquorice, framed by firm, grainy tannins and long persistence.
Winemaking and Cellaring
The five varieties were vinified separately and matured in French oak for 18 to 22 months before blending and bottling. Approximately 35% new oak contributes subtle spice and toast while preserving the wine's clarity and elegance. This is a deeply age-worthy vintage with a suggested drinking window extending to 2046.
