“A strong effort for this Penfolds bottling, the 2004 Bin 128 features powerful aromas of chocolate and cassis, then follows up with slightly more nuanced flavors that add brighter berry notes to the mix. Tannins are silky-smooth, suggesting early drinkability, although it should age well until at least 2015.”

About This Wine

Launched in 1962, Penfolds Bin 128 is a regional wine that reflects the unique climate and growing conditions of South Australia's Coonawarra district and the relatively elegant style of cool-climate shiraz.

From the 1980 vintage, French oak replaced American oak, highlighting the pepper, spice and floral characteristics that define this style.

Since the mid-1980s, greater attention has been paid to fruit ripeness, resulting in a wine that is fuller in style and structure.

Coonawarra experienced a cool, dry summer with the grapes ripening evenly and early. Overall, perfect vintage weather with no rain offered a great opportunity to make wines of classic varietal character and longevity.

COLOUR Deep red-purple.

NOSE Saturated elderberry, plum, spicy, nutmeg, pain-grille aromas.

PALATE The palate is beautifully exuberant and powerful with ripe elderberry, blackberry, plum fruit and chocolaty, firm tannins. Lovely weight, texture and tannin ripeness.
