Rockford Wines, founded by Robert O’Callaghan in 1984, remains a symbol of Barossa Valley heritage. The Basket Press Shiraz is Rockford’s flagship — made using traditional methods including hand-picked fruit, open fermentation, and gentle basket pressing. It captures the essence of old-vine Barossa Shiraz: pure, soulful, and enduring.
Vintage
2003 saw warm, dry conditions leading to low yields and concentrated fruit. Despite the heat, careful vineyard selection produced Shiraz of balance and purity. The 2003 Basket Press is a dense, structured vintage with superb mid-palate weight.
Tasting Notes
Deep purple-black colour. Aromas of black cherry, plum, licorice, and cocoa unfold with notes of tobacco and roasted spice. The palate is opulent yet balanced, delivering layers of black fruit, dark chocolate, and savoury oak. Firm tannins carry through a long, powerful finish.
