The 2001 Jasper Hill Emily's Paddock Shiraz Cabernet Franc 750ml is a mature single-vineyard wine from Jasper Hill in Heathcote, Victoria. Produced from Shiraz and Cabernet Franc, Emily's Paddock is recognised for its firm tannin structure, natural acidity, distinctive perfume and savoury complexity.

At release, the 2001 vintage was described as more tannic than the preceding 2000 release, while retaining the elegance, balance and exceptional length associated with the vineyard. Now fully mature, it offers a developed expression of one of Jasper Hill's most distinctive Heathcote wines.

Vintage & Winemaking

Emily's Paddock is Jasper Hill's smallest vineyard, covering approximately 2.7 hectares on an easterly facing slope. Its naturally low yields contribute concentrated flavours and the firm tannin profile traditionally associated with this wine.

The Shiraz and Cabernet Franc were co-fermented with natural yeasts and remained on skins for five to six weeks before gentle pressing. The wine was then matured for 12 months in French oak, with the production approach designed to preserve the vineyard's natural acidity, perfume and structural character.

Appearance

Medium crimson with mature garnet tones, showing the colour development expected of a wine from this vintage.

Aroma

Developed aromas of redcurrant, red cherry and chinotto are layered with mint, earth, mocha, leather and subtle savoury notes.

Palate

Medium-bodied and supple, with mature redcurrant and red cherry fruit supported by earthy mocha, sage and herbal complexity. Loose-knit chocolate-like tannins provide structure, while mineral freshness and savoury nuances carry through the palate.

Finish

Firm and persistent, with lingering chocolate, leafy herbs, earth and mineral notes.
