The 1999 Château Margaux is distinguished by finesse, aromatic complexity and classical structure, combining purity and delicacy with supple texture, depth and a remarkably persistent finish. More than two decades after the vintage, it remains highly regarded, including a 100-point rating from Giuseppe Lauria’s Fine Wine Guide.

Vintage

Following early flowering, the 1999 summer was hot and sunny with occasional rain. Exceptionally fine weather from 20 August to 10 September brought the grapes close to ideal ripeness and concentration before heavy rain arrived later in September. Picking began on 22 September.

“Château Margaux 1999 stands out for its great finesse, intensity and aromatic complexity. The nose combines great purity and great classicism. On the palate, it first reveals delicacy and suppleness, then softness, richness and density, before finishing with great length, displaying the wine’s true power. An extremely charming Château Margaux which is difficult to resist today, but has not yet finished surprising us. A great success.”
