Overview

A classic village Puligny-Montrachet from Jean-Louis and Paul Chavy, bringing together ten small parcels across the appellation. The 2024 shows the domaine’s characteristic purity and restraint, with mineral precision, concentration and finely integrated oak supported by the natural freshness of Chardonnay from Puligny-Montrachet.

Vineyard

The wine is assembled from ten small parcels of vines approximately 20 to 60 years old, averaging around 50 years. Sites include Les Tremblots, Les Meix, Les Levrons, Corvée des Vignes and Les Reuchaux, providing a broad expression of Puligny-Montrachet from north to south.

The vineyards are farmed sustainably using organic principles. The domaine maintains relatively old vines and high planting densities, with an emphasis on allowing differences in soil and exposure to remain clearly expressed in the finished wines.

Winemaking

Fruit is whole-bunch pressed, followed by approximately 24 hours of settling under temperature control before fermentation with natural yeasts. The domaine does not use bâtonnage.

The wine is matured for approximately 11 months in barrel followed by a further seven months in stainless steel. Around 15–20% new oak is used, with a preference for larger 350-litre barrels to limit oak influence and preserve freshness and terroir expression.

Producer

The Chavy family has lived and cultivated vines in Puligny-Montrachet for more than two centuries. The present Domaine Jean-Louis Chavy was established following the division of the family estate, with Jean-Louis continuing the domaine and his son Paul joining full-time after completing studies in viticulture and oenology.

The estate farms approximately seven hectares, principally in Puligny-Montrachet, including Premier Cru holdings in Les Folatières, Les Perrières, Les Clavoillons and Les Champs Gains. The wines are made in a restrained, traditional style focused on fruit purity, freshness and clear expression of individual vineyard sites.
