Overview

Sparkling Shiraz is a distinctly Australian tradition, and Majella’s Coonawarra expression combines vibrant dark fruit with traditional-method complexity. The 2023 release offers fine bubbles, supple texture and balanced sweetness, supported by French oak maturation and extended lees ageing.

Winemaking

The Shiraz base wine matured for five months in second- and third-use French oak hogsheads before undergoing secondary fermentation in the bottle. It then remained on lees for 14 months.

Produced using the traditional method, each bottle was hand-riddled and disgorged. A small addition of vintage port provided further richness and complexity.

Colour: Vibrant dark red with a bright ruby hue and a fine bead.

Bouquet: Fresh plum, raspberry, and blackberry aromas.

Palate: Smooth and luscious, with black fruit characters, a hint of spice, gentle tannins, and a generous finish.

An explosion of colour, effervescence and flavour here. Inky vibrant maroon in colour, the nose gives us aromas of black fruits, aniseed, mocha, chocolate soy, smoked meats and beef stock … A supple and intense texture with excellent length, it really is well balanced throughout. A cracking Sparkling Shiraz, this will provide pleasure for at least a decade.

An intoxicating vintage with aromas of brandy redcurrants, goji tea and baked rhubarb. A foamy bead and some sinewy tannins. This is such a reliable fizz for its persistent flavours and Christmas cake spices, but handled with care and attention for overall balance and texture.
