The 2023 Lowestoft Estate Pinot Noir is an acclaimed cool-climate Tasmanian red crafted by winemakers Liam McElhinney and Sarah Fagan. Fruit from the Lower Derwent Valley and East Coast combines aromatic red fruit, savoury complexity and mineral freshness, supported by whole-bunch fermentation and large-format French oak.
Vineyards and Winemaking
The blend comprises 95% Pinot Noir from the Lower Derwent Valley and 5% from Tasmania’s East Coast. Approximately 25% whole bunches were included during fermentation.
The wine matured for 10 months in large-format French oak, of which 30% was new. This restrained approach preserves the wine’s fruit purity while adding texture, spice and structural detail.
Critic Reviews
95 Points – Dave Brooks, Halliday Wine Companion Published 01 October 2024 Pure red cherry and red plum fruits daubed in fine spice, amaro herbs, forest floor and light gamey tones. Sour cherry coming through on the palate with fine, chalky tannins and a bright, lingering exit.
