91/100 — William Kelley, Wine Advocate · 2021 Vintage
“The 2021 Mercurey 1er Cru Les Crêts Blanc is showing nicely, revealing aromas of crisp orchard fruit, buttery pastry, vanilla pod and white flowers, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny palate with chalky structure and a delicately orange blossom-inflected finish.”
About This Wine
Mercurey 1er Cru Les Crêts Blanc 2023 is sourced from 0.23 hectares of old Chardonnay vines planted in 1949 in Mercurey Premier Cru Les Crêts.
This Mercurey 1er Cru Blanc "Les Crets" is powerful and mineral on the nose.
The vineyard is planted on marly calcic soils of Oxfordian limestone.
Viticulture is organic, with no use of tractors in the vineyard. Vineyard work is carried out by hand or with horses for ploughing.
In the winery, some whole bunches are retained and macerations are long. No new oak is used.
Producer Notes
Powerful and mineral on the nose, the ample wine finds a great balance on the palate with white fruits, peach skin, and citrus notes. It is both rich and well proportioned.
About the Producer
The estate previously known as Domaine de la Vieille Fontaine, was taken over at the beginning of 2021 by the Corcia family. Alain Corcia is a successful négociant based in Savigny les Beaune, specialising in the marketing of great Burgundy wines for over 35 years.
Raphael, the youngest son, is the key driver for the takeover of the domaine and is in charge of both the work in the vineyard and in the cellar. Raphael burst onto the scene in the 2021 vintage, showing his skills through reimagining the method of cultivation for these vines through biodynamics.
