Sitting at around 450 metres above sea level, atop of the ridge in North-western part of Adelaide Hills this vineyard possesses some of the most remarkable attributes. Shallow, loamy soil with a mix of ironstone and sandstone gravel above a complex bedrock including schist, siltstone and gneiss. Cane pruned and low yielding block is producing aromatics of vibrant red berry fruit with fresh acidity and firm but fine tannin structure. Another long and elegant season allowed the grapes to develop fully, resulting in a complex wine that in many ways overdelivers. Freshness meets savouriness in the most enjoyable way.
Grapes were picked on a crisp autumn morning of the 1st April and received a short cold soak, followed by spontaneous fermentation in an open-top vessel. To achieve a gentle extraction, the cap was punched down manually twice a day. After 2 weeks, approximately 1/3 of the batch was drained directly into a seasoned French oak barrel, and the rest was kept on extended maceration for another 4 weeks before being pressed off. Natural malolactic fermentation took place and the wine matured in barrels over the course of 3-year period without racking. After the final blend, the wine stayed in stainless-steel tank for another 6 months before bottling on 17th October 2025.
