SILVER — Hong Kong IWSC · 2023
96/100 — Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion · 2021 Vintage · Published: 04 May 2024
“I was really looking forward to seeing this wine, from a vintage as strong as 2021. It's certainly got the Meshach horsepower and pure cedar-infused, black-fruited grunt that you'd expect from its bloodline. The tannin profile is finer, more compact and less bossy than I expected, the acidity, appley and mineral-laden and there is an impressive length of flavour. Dare I say it is probably a more elegant Meshach in the scheme of things, and it is certainly one that will age for a good while.”

“The Grant Burge brand flagship red, set deeply with impressive Shiraz fruit, dark, powerful though extremely well-behaved from end to end. It’s all captured in classy French oak – the aromatics are cedar laden while still allowing bursts of crimson plum and pomegranate to rise above the sensitively structured foundations, quite fine in the tannin grip, and enough retained acidity to keep the palate’s energy levels sustained. Everything neatly entwined and connected. Lots to love about this Meshach right now, as it’s drinking comfortably on opening, and history suggests it also has a long-life expectancy.”
94/100 — Decanter World Wine Awards · 2021 Vintage · Tasted: Jan 2023
Meshach is the flagship Shiraz of Grant Burge Wines.
The fruit is handpicked from the Filsell Vineyard, where the vines are almost 100 years old, with small portions selected from even older premium vines in the Barossa.
The age of these vines provides fruit with tremendous power and intensity, especially when ripened to the desired Baumé of 14°.
The wine was fermented in a combination of stainless steel and concrete open fermenters using heading boards, allowing optimal fruit extraction.
100% of the fruit was hand harvested.
The story of Grant Burge is one of the past, the present, and the future. Planting their roots in the Barossa Valley in 1865, the Burges began as a family of devoted vignerons. For five generations, they spent their days toiling on the land, understanding the soil, and from it, growing grapes that would become premium wines of today.
