The 2020 Ugo Lequio Barbaresco DOCG is a refined and traditional expression of Nebbiolo from the heart of Piemonte, showcasing the elegance, structure, and aromatic complexity that define great Barbaresco. Produced by Ugo Lequio, this wine reflects a family-driven approach focused on vineyard character, balance, and classical winemaking.
Sourced from hillside vineyards around Barbaresco, the fruit benefits from limestone-rich soils and a continental climate that supports slow ripening and the development of Nebbiolo’s hallmark perfume and tannin structure. The 2020 vintage delivered excellent balance and freshness, producing wines with clarity, finesse, and ageing potential.
In the winery, grapes were traditionally fermented with careful extraction to preserve varietal purity and structure. Maturation took place in large oak casks and barrels, allowing the wine to gain complexity and integration while maintaining focus on fruit and terroir expression rather than overt oak influence.
The wine opens with lifted aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, dried rose petals, and orange peel, layered with notes of anise, earth, spice, and subtle tarry complexity. The palate is medium-bodied yet firmly structured, with vibrant acidity, fine-grained tannins, and a long, savoury finish that reflects classic Barbaresco character.
Approachable with decanting in its youth, the 2020 Ugo Lequio Barbaresco DOCG will continue to evolve beautifully over 10–20+ years, developing additional tertiary notes of truffle, dried herbs, and forest floor.
A poised and authentic Barbaresco for collectors and lovers of elegant, site-driven Nebbiolo.
