Awarded 97 points by The Real Review and 96 points by both Halliday Wine Companion and Wine Pilot, the 2017 House of Arras Blanc de Blancs is an exceptional Tasmanian sparkling wine made entirely from cool-climate Chardonnay.
The wine spent seven years in tirage, building remarkable depth, creamy complexity and finesse while retaining pristine citrus fruit, mineral tension and a very fine, persistent bead. Wine Pilot described it as one of the finest Australian sparkling wines yet made.
Since 1995, House of Arras and pioneering Chief Winemaker Ed Carr have helped redefine the standard of Australian sparkling wine. Fruit is sourced from Tasmania’s pristine cool-climate vineyards and crafted through traditional-method winemaking, extended tirage and meticulous cellaring.
The wines are internationally recognised for their precision, purity, creamy effervescence and distinctive expression of Tasmanian terroir.
Light to medium straw with a green-golden hue and an ultra-fine, persistent bead.
Lifted grapefruit and nectarine open the bouquet before developing into complex notes of marzipan, freshly toasted brioche and sea-salt spray.
Generous and creamy, displaying citrus, stone fruit, hazelnut and roasted almond with a hint of white truffle. Crisp acidity, pronounced minerality and an exceptionally fine bead provide energy and definition.
Seven years in tirage have introduced impressive depth and complexity, while the low dosage preserves the fruit’s purity, linear freshness and refined, bone-dry finish.
The Chardonnay was sourced from cool-climate vineyards in Tasmania’s East Coast, Derwent Valley and Coal River Valley regions.
Fermentation took place primarily in stainless steel, with approximately 5.5% fermented in French oak to add subtle complexity. The wine underwent complete malolactic fermentation before spending seven years on lees.
Made by the traditional method with a dosage of 2.9 g/L, the finished wine combines mature lees-derived complexity with remarkable freshness and mineral precision.
97 Points – Huon Hooke, The Real Review
A smashing blanc de blancs in a high-tension, very dry and tightly focused style.
96 Points – Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
A spectacular Blanc de Blancs.
96 Points – Wine Pilot, November 2025
For me, we can go so far as to say this is one of the very best Australian sparklings yet made.
An elegant match for freshly shucked oysters, lobster, scallops, sashimi, smoked salmon, roast chicken, creamy cheeses and delicate dishes featuring white truffle. Serve well chilled in a generous sparkling-wine glass.
