2015 Wantirna Estate 'Hannah' Cabernet Franc - Merlot 750ml

Established in 1963 by Reg and Jessie Egan, Wantirna Estate is one of the Yarra Valley’s most historic and family-run wineries. Today, second-generation winemaker Maryann Egan continues the legacy of crafting elegant, small-lot wines from the estate’s original dry-grown vines — wines that combine classical balance, purity, and graceful ageing potential.

Wine Overview
Named for another of the Egan family’s third generation, ‘Hannah’ is a distinctive Cabernet Franc-dominant blend, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. It represents the more aromatic and supple side of Wantirna’s Bordeaux-inspired reds — fragrant, medium-bodied, and beautifully detailed.

Vineyard
Fruit is sourced exclusively from Wantirna’s home vineyard near the Yarra River, planted on gravelly clay-loam soils. Mature vines and low yields produce berries of concentration and fine tannin. The estate’s cool climate and long ripening period ensure bright aromatics and impeccable balance.

Winemaking
Each parcel was fermented separately in small open fermenters with gentle hand plunging, then matured for around 18 months in French oak barriques (approximately one-third new). The blend was assembled and bottled without fining or filtration, retaining natural texture and aromatic lift.

Vintage
The 2015 season was a highlight in the Yarra Valley — mild, even conditions producing reds of clarity, purity, and fine structure. The Hannah 2015 is a classic example: generous in fruit, yet poised and elegant.

Tasting Notes
Aromas of redcurrant, violet, bay leaf, and graphite rise from the glass, joined by hints of cocoa and savoury spice. The palate is silky and medium-bodied, showing bright red fruits, gentle oak, and finely woven tannins leading to a long, savoury finish.
