The 2013 Jasper Hill Georgia’s Paddock Shiraz is a powerful, long-lived expression of Heathcote Shiraz, combining ripe dark fruit, spice and mocha with the firm tannin structure characteristic of the wine. The vintage earned 96 points from James Halliday and 95 points from Wine Enthusiast, while Andrew Caillard MW assessed it in 2017 with a drinking window extending to 2035.
For the 2013 vintage, Georgia’s Paddock fruit was supplemented with grapes grown by friends within the Heathcote region. Jasper Hill described the wine at release as plush and richly fruited, with natural acidity and powerful yet supple tannins supporting its longevity.
Jasper Hill — Time of Release
“Bright purple in colour to the rim, with its typical flavours of rich mixed spices and sweet, ripe red plummy fruits. Plush, chocolatey mocha characters and fabulous natural acidity paired to powerful, supple tannins confers great longevity, but why wait?”
96/100 — James Halliday
“Deep, bright crimson-purple; the bouquet offers a complex array of black fruits, spice, licorice and a hint of smoked meat, the full-bodied palate fulfilling the promises of the bouquet; dusty tannins join with the extravagant fruit, and the wine cries out for time. A gold-plated certainty to repay discipline many times over.”

95/100 — Wine Enthusiast
“Dusty, firm, powerful: just a few apt descriptors for this vintage of one of Heathcote's top wines. Mocha, licorice and blackberries feature on the nose, while the palate delivers more of the same—dark fruit, chocolate and plenty of spice. Best after 2020.”

91/100 — Andrew Caillard MW
“Medium deep crimson. Intense espresso, ‘morocachino’ blackberry aromas with graphite notes. Fresh developed mocha berry fruits with muscular firm vigorous tannins and underlying savoury nuances. Finishes grippy and long with plenty of extract and tannin plume. Assertive punchy wine. Unlikely to soften out but still possesses presence and dimension.”

The original block of Georgia’s Paddock Shiraz was planted in 1975, with additional vines planted in 1987. For the 2013 vintage, Georgia’s Paddock grapes were supplemented with fruit grown by friends within the Heathcote region.
Jasper Hill’s soils are derived from Cambrian-period basaltic rock estimated at 500–600 million years old. In Heathcote these soils can reach depths of up to four metres, forming rusty-red, well-drained gravelly loams with good moisture-retention capability. Their occurrence within a narrow strip between two north-south faults contributes to the complex mineralogy of the site.
Jasper Hill was established by Ron and Elva Laughton in Heathcote in 1975. The family estate is closely associated with Georgia’s Paddock and Emily’s Paddock and has developed a longstanding reputation for distinctive, age-worthy Heathcote Shiraz. Georgia’s Paddock remains one of the producer’s defining wines.
