The 2010 Hentley Farm Clos Otto Shiraz is a rare and highly collectible flagship Shiraz from one of the Barossa Valley's most acclaimed single-vineyard producers. Produced only in exceptional vintages, Clos Otto represents the pinnacle of Hentley Farm's winemaking philosophy, showcasing the power, concentration, and longevity of fruit sourced from one of the estate's finest vineyard sites.
Named in honour of Otto Kasper, the visionary viticulturist who first identified the unique potential of the western Barossa Valley, Clos Otto is sourced from a low-yielding hillside vineyard where shallow soils and naturally restricted vine vigour produce fruit of remarkable intensity and complexity.
The exceptional 2010 vintage is widely regarded as one of the greatest South Australian vintages of the past two decades. Near-perfect growing conditions delivered fruit with outstanding concentration, natural acidity, and tannin maturity, resulting in wines of both immediate appeal and extraordinary ageing potential.
Hand-harvested fruit was carefully sorted and fermented in small batches before maturation in premium French oak barrels. The extended élevage enhanced texture and complexity while allowing the vineyard's distinctive character to remain the focus.
Now with more than a decade of bottle age, the wine reveals a deeply complex bouquet of blackberry, black plum, blueberry, and dark cherry, layered with notes of liquorice, dark chocolate, espresso, cedar, star anise, and exotic spice. Mature tertiary characters of leather, tobacco leaf, forest floor, and savoury earth have begun to emerge, adding further depth and sophistication.
The palate is rich, concentrated, and beautifully structured, with dense dark fruit supported by velvety tannins and remarkable freshness. Despite its power, the wine retains exceptional balance and precision, finishing long and persistent with lingering notes of spice, dark berries, mocha, and fine oak.
Now firmly within an outstanding drinking window, the 2010 Clos Otto Shiraz offers a superb combination of maturity and vitality. Well-cellared bottles will continue to evolve gracefully for another decade or more.
