“...a ripper...super-dense, impenetrable colour...concentrated black-fruit, spicy oak and chocolate aromas...tightly constructed, long-flavoured youngster with everything in the right place”. 1999/2000 “Good Australian Wine Guide.”
About This Wine
1997 “The Malleea” by Majella is made from 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Shiraz, selected from some very low bearing vines grown on the Majella vineyard in Coonawarra.
The wine was barrel fermented and then aged for two years in new French Oak hogsheads.
The wine received 4 Gold Medals and 4 Silver Medals, and was named Best Red Wine and Best Red Blend in the 1999/2000 “Good Australian Wine Guide” by Huon Hooke and Ralph Kyte-Powell.
Producer Notes
The nose shows a strong combination of spices and berries with lifted oak aromas.
The palate structure is very complex, with hints of ripe plums and a very long tannic finish.
